Steampunk pepper grinder made of Wenge Wood

$48.99

The pepper grinder base is made from a piece of Wenge wood. This chunk of wood was from a stash that I picked up from a local woodworker who was downsizing. There was no markings on the piece to queue me in on what I have. I had the hardest time identifying this until I pulled a pen blank for another item I’m making. As this is an increasingly rare wood, it’s not common to find in a size for a pepper grinder. If I’d been paying attention, I might have broken this into several smaller items — my failure to pay attention is your gain. The deep black with speckles of white-ish grain is totally normal for this wood. I tried to pull as much of that subtly out with the roundish center lobe.

The steampunk / Antique looking grinder mechanism measures 2" in diameter x 4-3/8" tall and features an Antique Brass finish, cast metal parts, and a knurled disc that adjusts for coarse to fine granules. Peppercorns are loaded through a sliding door on the body of the mechanism. The hopper holds about a quarter cup of peppercorns.

Total height is approximately 8 inches. Approximately 3 inches across at the widest point. In order to protect the mechanism, we only ship this item USPS Priority Mail.

DO NOT turn the finial on the very top of the grinder. It keeps the spring that controls the tension for the grinding adjustment in place. If you unscrew the finial, the spring will go flying, and you may never see it again.
