AskCheese Woodworks

AskCheese Woodworks is the hobby business of a couple who live from Fishers Indiana. Fishers is a northern suburb of Indianapolis and is a great place to raise a family.

Chris and Tanya are the two main makers that create the items you’ll find on this site. Although Chris (me) works in IT, he is not the most adept at making a website. He’d rather spend time in his woodshop making new and unique items for you.

What is seen on the site is generated by us — people. Normal, everyday, people that are just like you in a lot of ways. We don’t believe in reselling stuff we find on one of the wholesale sites or off the primary manufacturer sites.

We used to have an Etsy store. It was our observation that Etsy seems so willing to allow resales from manufacturer sites to be passed off as hand made, and penalizes anyone who’s not spending playing all the games they think are fun for sellers.

It’s our strong belief that when you buy something from us that you feel like you’ve got that one of a kind item that brings you joy. We try to make our stuff to the highest quality we are capable of.

How are we?

Chris — An IT guy who makes a lot of things because the IT universe isn’t necessarily holdable in one’s hands. He’s got more hobbies and interests than he’d care to admit. (“Where’s that 5 gall bucket of spare time” —often heard coming from him) After a day of managing projects or dissecting IT processes that aren’t working appropriately, he likes getting into the woodshop to be covered in sawdust while summoning unique items into existance. He truly feels honored when people buy the things and find good uses for them.

Tanya - The other maker of the woodworks. She too has a habit of having more interests than time to do them all. Accomplished in her own right, Tanya adventures into areas of woodwork that Chris generally doesn’t. She’s an avid gardener tending to what the family calls “Scofflaw Gardens.” She is definitely Chris’ “enabler” and encourages him in making new things while learning from his mistakes.

Our Philosophy:

Have fun and make something cool.

Why does something useful have to be made from plastic or be boring? Why buy the marketing that looks like everyone’s everything else? Why accept meh-quality when there’s an option of something being available and useful for MANY years to come?

That is what the Hayes’ believe and try to advance with all the items they make. With the exception of this website (which is always going to be under construction in some manner…like an Indiana interstate) all the items listed are used in their house and could be spoken to from personal experience. If they don’t like it, they won’t make and sell it.
