Steampunk pepper grinder made of Bass wood
The pepper grinder base is made from a piece of very soft basswood that a came from a family friend’s farm in northern Indiana. Basswood is generally used for carving, but the massive mineral streak running up the front of the piece made is less than desirable for carving a nifty something. I decided to make the mineral streak the focus as a stream coming down the lobe on the front. There is still plenty going on with the grain around the rest of the piece.
The steampunk / Antique looking grinder mechanism measures 2" in diameter x 4-3/8" tall and features an Antique Brass finish, cast metal parts, and a knurled disc that adjusts for coarse to fine granules. Peppercorns are loaded through a sliding door on the body of the mechanism. The hopper holds about a quarter cup of peppercorns.
Total height is approximately 8 inches. Approximately 3 inches across at the widest point. In order to protect the mechanism, we only ship this item USPS Priority Mail.
DO NOT turn the finial on the very top of the grinder. It keeps the spring that controls the tension for the grinding adjustment in place. If you unscrew the finial, the spring will go flying, and you may never see it again.
