Steampunk pepper grinder made of Koa wood (I think)
Pepper grinder base has been turned from a piece of what I think is Koa from Hawaii. I can’t be certain as this was from a pile of wood that I picked up from another woodworker who was downsizing his shop. It does look like other Koa that I’ve turned in the past. That being said, I tried to give the wood the biggest opportunity to tell its story. There are growth rings that really play with the light and the rich reddish color gives this piece a real regal feel to it.
The steampunk / Antique looking grinder mechanism measures 2" in diameter x 4-3/8" tall and features an Antique Copper finish, cast metal parts, and a knurled disc that adjusts for coarse to fine granules. Peppercorns are loaded through a sliding door on the body of the mechanism. The hopper holds about a quarter cup of peppercorns.
Total height is approximately 8 inches. Approximately 3 inches across at the widest point. In order to protect the mechanism, we only ship this item USPS Priority Mail.
DO NOT turn the finial on the very top of the grinder. It keeps the spring that controls the tension for the grinding adjustment in place. If you unscrew the finial, the spring will go flying, and you may never see it again.
