Ice Cream Scoop with interesting Burl Wood Handle
Ice cream scoop with hand-turned burl wood handle. The handle is approximately 6 inches long. The whole scoop is about 9 inches from base to tip. It’s finished with tung oil and a topcoat of durable enamel.
The stainless steel scoop unscrews from the handle for easy cleaning. The handle must be washed by hand. A trip through the dishwasher would ruin the wood.
This scoop’s handle is made from a burl. I picked up a large stash of wood a while back from a neighbor who was moving and wouldn’t be able to take his shop with him. In this stash is this piece of burl. I’ve made some other items from the source chunk. This is the ice cream scoop that came from it.
Burls have all sorts of twists and curves going on in the wood. No two will ever look close —even from the same chunk of wood. Definitely a one of a kind.
