Ice cream scoop with hand-turned Silver Maple wood handle. The handle is approximately 6 inches long. The whole scoop is about 9 inches from base to tip. It’s finished with tung oil and a topcoat of durable enamel.
The stainless steel scoop unscrews from the handle for easy cleaning. The handle must be washed by hand. A trip through the dishwasher would ruin the wood.
The wood for this handle comes from a hickory tree that’s just outside my shop. From time to time it drops some pretty large limbs (usually during massive thunderstorms). Those branches that are big enough to save get turned into things in my shop. This scoop is from one of those branches. The design of the handle is an interpretation of an classic Doctor Who sonic screwdriver. Hopefully this handle opens your ice cream as easily as the Doctor’s screwdriver opens his obstacles.
