Hand-turned red oak wood Kaleidoscope
Kids of all ages find a kaleidoscope intriguing. Hold it up to the light and turn. The shapes and patterns in the view port are never the same!
This kaleidoscope is turned from a piece of a red oak branch from a tree that’s in my yard. The vaguely diamond shape shows off both the growth rings and the ray-fleck that holds the tree together. There’s something going on in each direction of this piece (and definitely in the viewer too).
It is approximately 2 5/8 inches tall. The wood is finished with tung oil and an enamel topcoat. The hardware is chromed for durability.
