This shallow bowl comes from a silver maple tree that used to be across the street from us. There’s a branch/knot inclusion on the bottom that is the main focus of the inside of the bowl. Because of that, there is some play with the grain around that. (The knot made this a bit of a challenge because the sounds when making the bowl really messed with my ear and I thought this was falling apart.) The growth rings are quite wide, which indicate this tree was able to grow rapidly with little challenge for resources. This bowl would make a great area for you to keep your keys near the door. Or it can be used for desktop items that you need to keep centralized. It’s just about the right size for keeping life organized (or in the same place).
The bowl is about 1.5inches tall and 5.5 inches across (at the top).
The bowl is finished with a multi-layer process of tung oil, shellac, lacquer, and enamel.
This would be shipped insured and very protected. (duh...like I’d want it to arrive at your side broken…that’d make me very sad because I have a lot of work in this piece and want you to enjoy the final piece as much as I enjoyed making it.)
