End grain Pine bowl with bark inclusion
I love a good challenge. Turning air dried end grain pine is one of those challenges. This bowl did not fail on being a decent challenge. The wood came from a large Norwegian Pine tree that was taken out many years ago (and this bowl blank then got lost in my stacks). As the pictures should show, there’s a bunch of mineral streaks through the piece. That gives a ton of character to this bowl. That the pith (center) of the piece is just off center and is near the edge where the bark inclusion is, makes me wonder how the tree was truly growing. No matter, it gave us this wild mineral streaked character loaded wood.
The bowl isn’t terribly deep at only 2.5 inches deep, but it’s width allows this to be a great table center piece. Or it could be a decent landing-area bowl to have a centralized area for your various sets of keys / wallets/ daily carry items that you pick up on the way out of the house.
The bowl is about 2.5inches tall and 10.5 inches across (at the top).
The bowl is finished with a multi-layer process of tung oil, shellac, lacquer, and enamel.
This would be shipped insured and very protected. (duh...like I’d want it to arrive at your side broken…that’d make me very sad because I have a lot of work in this piece and want you to enjoy the final piece as much as I enjoyed making it.)
