Double Edge Safety Razor & Brush Set with handles of Lignum Vitae

$112.99

Shaving set that includes a Chrome plated double edge safety razor and a boar’s hair brush. Both handle and brush are made from a piece of lignum vitae wood. A chrome razor and brush stand completes the set.

The razor is roughly 4 1/4 inches in length. The shaving brush's overall height is approximately 4 3/4 inches. The handle is about 1 1/4 inch across and 2 3/4 inches in length. The knot has a 20 mm base, and and its height is about 67 mm. The knot is securely epoxied into the handle for many years of use. Both handles have a durable acrylic topcoat so they easily wipe dry after use.

Razor blade will be included in the razor when you get it (be careful when opening things) and there is an additional pack of 5 blades included. Shouldn’t hand made sets come with blades so you can get adjusted? I don’t get the idea of charging extra for a necessity to get started with a tool.

The blades are from Astra. I use these exact blades on a daily basis and has been very happy with the shave I get. Not only do I get a better feeling shave, I think I save money too. For roughly $30 on Amazon, I purchased a pack of 300 blades. That is about the cost of 2 cartridge refills of name brand multi-bladed tops that might last 6 months. (I’m at years since my last refill on blades.)

Add in the use of a decent quality shaving soap (not included), not only are you getting a great shave, you’re helping reduce the amount of unnecessary waste in our system. No burning chemical smells and aerosol cans of thick sludge to be wiped on your face. A hockey puck of shaving soap will last almost a year and will be a scent you’ll enjoy because you picked it out (not some marketing person who’s looking at costs per ton of sludge to be moved on).

The boar’s hair brush is a much stiffer brush than the silver tip badger brushes you’ll see on this site. Personally, I found it to stiff for my shaving experience. I’ve been told by people who’ve purchased other similar brushes from me that they -do- enjoy that stiffer feel for their thicker beards/hair. To each their own — and I do make these because people say they enjoy them. Making you happy with this set is my goal.

A note on the shaving brush — Hairs will fall out over time. This is a natural product and this does happen. For the first few weeks it might seem like there are more hairs coming out, but it’ll fall back to only a hair a week or so after a few months work. I use the first brush I made over 10 years ago and it’s still working like a champ. This brush should last you many many years down the road.

My supplier has not provided me with specifics about the head's manufacturing or the handle's interchangeability with other heads. However, a few of our previous customers have told us that our handles have worked well with Edwin Jagger and Muhle heads that they have purchased elsewhere.
