Stacked PlyWood beverage Tumbler, 20 Ounce Capacity

$70.99

This is a 20 ounce stainless steel lined, laminated stacked plywood cladded exterior, beverage container. The lid is slip-fit and clear (so you can see how much of your beverage remains). I also include a reusable metal straw (that is dishwasher safe). The main body is not dishwasher safe— it’s recommended you rinse out the inside in the sink and quickly hand dry the outside. Although this is finished with a multi-layer process, wood and water love each other and will do funny things when left to their own devices.

As I might mention in a few of my other listings, I’m not one to waste wood if I can avoid it. Plywood included. This tumbler is made from plywood that’s been used in other projects. Once I had the right size for each layer, I glued all the plys together to make the strata look you see. What’s particular to this configuration is that there is a subtle shift in what you see in end or long grain every eighth of the way around. So boring plywood shows that it too can play the wood-drama game.
I will say that this configuration of plys does try my patience something fierce. Plywood is designed to take a compressive force quite nicely. My putting torque on the layers is definitely not in spec for the glues that hold this together. So I spend a lot of time trying to get things -close- but I don’t think I’ll get exactly what I want in as a final item, because this will do what it wants to do with me being along for the ride while it does what it wants.
It wouldn’t be here if I didn’t think it would be interesting to you in the end. It’s just a serious process to get this done like this.

This will still be one of those mugs that will be completely different to everyone else’s same colored Stanley or yeti mugs.

As wood is thermally resistant, and the foaming polyurethane glue I use to keep everything in place is also an insulator, this beverage container will do a reasonable job in keeping hot things hot and cold things cold (without all the summertime sweating).

This mug is over 9 inches tall and 4 1/5 inches wide. I try to make my beverage containers available to fit most car cup holders. This is just a touch over 3 inches at the base.

Ships via USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate.
